A Dream For You: How The Philippines Got Into The Global Speaking Map And Why Professional Speakers Must Now Join PAPS

Foreword by Jonathan Low, CSP, 2015-2016 President of Global Speakers Federation

Leading a professional speaking association takes courage, determination, vision, and a passion for people and service. It has been exciting to witness the journey of such an individual in Lloyd Luna as related in this book written by fellow professional speaker and writer Edith Magtibay-Garde.

I first got to know of Lloyd back in December 2016 when he and his team of professional speakers were in the process of having the Philippines Association of Professional Speakers become part of the Global Speakers Federation. Fast forward several months later, after numerous calls and lots of e-mail communication between us, the first PAPS Convention 2017 was scheduled and was held on July 26, 2017 at the Asian Institute of Management Conference Center in Makati City.

As the President of the Global Speakers Federation (GSF) for 2015-2016, I was honored with the invitation to be one of the keynote speakers of the inaugural PAPS Convention in Manila.

I still remember landing at 12.30 am at the Manila International Airport, and there waiting to greet and pick me up was Lloyd Luna himself. Seven hours later that same morning he was slated to kick off the Convention as the first PAPS President, so I indeed became speechless to see him there waiting for me. I had told him before coming that I could easily get a cab to the hotel, but Lloyd was nonetheless so insistent that I had to give in.

Lloyd and I had a great time catching up on things in that journey to the hotel, and I got to know him much better not only as the founder and President of PAPS but as a wonderful human being.

We exchanged story after story on the possibilities for PAPS and what this could mean for all professional speakers in Philippines.

What I understood to be normally a 20-minute drive from the airport to the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Hotel in Makati City took us almost an hour. Lloyd bought time and drove at only 30km/hour, which I wasn’t even sure was permitted in an express highway. He was simply so excited for PAPS and for the possibility of it becoming part of the Global Speakers Federation.

From that initial experience of mine, I knew that PAPS was in great hands. This was very much in evidence from the passionate service, commitment, and dedication that I saw and felt in him.

PAPS’ Keynote 2017—the first Annual National Professional Speakers Convention—was a resounding success. The dedication of the leadership team simply mesmerized me. After the Convention, we held several meetings to ensure that the application of PAPS was properly done to ensure its admission as a member of the Global Speakers Federation.

It was amazing to see PAPS growing fast in just a year’s time, with a good number of creative value-added meetings being held in such a short period for the benefit of its professional members.

Lloyd is a fantastic ambassador of the speaking profession and a tireless leader of one of the world’s natural English-speaking nations. Proof of this is that despite his busy schedules in the Philippines, he found time to attend the Global Speakers Summit in Auckland, New Zealand, last February 23-26, 2018 and the Asia Professional Speakers Convention in Singapore as well on May 11-12, 2018 that, as it happened, coincided with his 36th birthday.

A humble, unassuming, and family-oriented person, Lloyd truly cares for the world of professional speaking and most especially for his public-speaking tribe in the Philippines. What a joy for me to call him my dear friend and peer!

Firmly committed to inspire action and change in the world, Lloyd is a consummate speaker and leader who has the focus and energy to bring great ideas to reality. May this book inspire many others to follow his path to be of service first and to serve it forward later!
